The fight against marine pollution from fish trays in Italy: a commitment that MAGIC PACK srl, a GRUPPO HAPPY company, has taken on at the request of WWF Italia by designing and creating a new single-material packaging solutions for this type of application, made from extruded polystyrene and containing up to 50% post-consumer recycled material (r-XPS) under a functional barrier in direct contact with the catch. The material, r-XPS, is an excellent insulator, thanks to its continuous cellular structure containing air; it is also not liable to crumbling, therefore significantly reducing potential dispersal of microplastics in the sea. This solution was developed through an LCA and Ecodesign analysis process, and is currently being tested by two Italian fishing companies, contributing to the development of an innovative alternative which is more sustainable than EPS fish packaging, looking towards a \u201czero-waste\u201d fishing system, in keeping with European regulations on circular economy of plastics.<\/p>\n\n
