From the 30th of September to the 2nd of October, Madrid hosted the 16th edition of Fruit Attraction, the opportunity for professionals in the fruit and vegetable sector from all over the world to get together.

Profood, a commodities group which is a member of the Federazione Gomma Plastica (rubber-plastic federation, part of Confindustria), which played an active part, organised an event aiming to shed light on issues with the PPWR, approved at the end of the previous legislative session of the European Parliament.

“The speakers invited by ProFood, Ron Lemaire, President of CPMA (Canadian Produce Marketing Association); Luc Vanoirbeek, President of the COPA-COGECA Fruit & Vegetables Working Group; Philippe Binard, General Delegate of Freshfel Europe; Jean-Louis Moulon, Vice President of AREFLH; and Aurelio Del Pino Gonzalez, President of ACES (Asociacion Espanola Cadenas Supermercados) made their contribution to the discussion on the effects that the PPWR will have, focusing on sustainability, costs and the feasibility of the alternatives to traditional packaging, and debated the implications for the fresh produce sector. ProFood is working towards an overhaul of the PPWR, and the Madrid event was an opportunity to renew our appeal to politicians and institutions, reminding them how important plastic packaging is to food safety, reducing waste and maintaining product quality.”
